Bitcoin rejects $78k and slips back toward $76k

Bitcoin tagged a $78,039 high in the prior window but the latest 12-hour candle opened at $77,441 and sold off to a $75,690 low, now holding near $76,280 — down roughly 1.5% on the period. The last six hours have been the sharper leg, shedding about 2% from $77,860 as sell-side volume returned. A brief positive-delta bounce into the latest hour has not repaired negative cumulative delta, so the tape still reads as distribution rather than a reclaim.

BTCUSDT — The Rejected Reclaim: $78k Holds as Supply, and the Bid Folds

Binance USDT-M, 1h / 12h. Last run the desk read a stabilization — a floor at $76,350 and a tentative bounce that was real on the tape but unconfirmed by cumulative flow. This window answers that question decisively: the reclaim failed. The angle this run is the failed push and the resumption of supply — price printed a $78,039 high, got rejected at the same shelf that broke last cycle, and is being walked back down on heavy volume. The bid that looked like it was stabilizing has not held.

12-Hour vs 6-Hour Comparison

The latest 12-hour candle is still developing — barely four hours old — and has already printed 99,786 BTC of volume against the prior candle's full 114,718. That is an acceleration, not a slowdown: the break lower is running hotter than the prior push higher.

Tape and Flow

The six-hour leg is where the damage happened. Price held the high $77.8k–$77.9k band through 22:00, then broke in three steps — $77,225 at 00:00, $77,014 at 01:00, and a $76,127 close at 02:00 on 22,317 BTC of volume, the heaviest single hour of the window. The 03:00 bar put in the $75,690 low on 38,912 BTC — the largest hourly print of the entire run — before a small bid lifted it back to $76,282.

Delta confirms the tone. The 02:00 bar was aggressively sell-side (−1,992 delta), and while the 03:00 bounce carried positive delta (+1,226), cumulative delta is still deeply negative at −2,857 and falling. That is the signature of a relief bid inside a distribution tape, not a turn.

Session Tone

  • Failed reclaim: the $78k shelf that cracked last cycle was retested and rejected — supply is still sitting there.
  • Accelerating downside volume: the current 12h candle is out-pacing the prior one on volume with a lower low already in.
  • Unrepaired flow: positive delta on the bounce hour has not moved cumulative delta off its negative slope.

The read: bulls needed to hold $76,350 and reclaim $78k to invalidate the distribution thesis. They got the first, failed the second, and are now defending the floor on rising sell volume. A close back below $76,000 would open the $75,690 low and likely the next shelf down; a reclaim of $77,500–$78,000 is the only tape that flips this back to neutral.
