Ether hands back the breakout, fading under 2,500

Ether gave up the prior session's push above 2,500, sliding from 2,511 to 2,442 over the latest 12 hours for a 2.7% decline. The fade accelerated in the final six hours, which shaved another 2.2% as sellers took control of the tape. Volume thinned on the way down, but delta stayed firmly negative into the close, leaving the pair back near its overnight base.

ETHUSDT Desk Read — the breakout that got handed back

Angle this run: the fade, not the push. The prior window framed a three-hour surge that finally cracked 2,500 and held. This window is the mirror image. The high printed at 2,526.99 in the first hour of the period, and from there the tape spent the next eleven hours quietly bleeding — no climactic sell, just a steady drip of offers overwhelming bids at every bounce. This is not a crash; it is the market deciding the breakout was borrowed, not owned.

12 hours vs 6 hours

WindowOpenCloseMoveVolume
Latest 12h (16:00–03:00)2,511.52,442.4−2.75%~6.47M
Prior 12h (04:00–15:00)2,443.22,511.5+2.79%~8.33M
Last 6h (22:00–03:00)2,498.12,442.4−2.23%~3.40M

The structure is telling: the push up carried 8.3M in volume over twelve hours, while the entire round-trip back down needed only 6.5M. Price traveled the same distance on roughly a fifth less participation — a classic sign that the move up lacked resting demand behind it. When the buyers that drove the spike stepped away, there was no bid wall to catch the fall.

Tape and orderflow

The last two hourly buckets paint the tone. The 02:00 bar closed at 2,440.84 on 884K volume with the low at 2,435.64, and the 03:00 bar recovered only to 2,442.43 on 495K — a weak bounce on half the prior bar's volume. Delta ran negative into the close (−5,398 on the final bar), and cumulative CVD sits at roughly −59K and still grinding lower, meaning aggressive sellers have held the initiative through the entire retreat. There is no absorption signal yet; bids are being lifted, not defended.

Session tone

The overnight base near 2,435–2,445 that previously acted as a springboard is now being retested from above. A hold there would simply restore the range the market spent most of the prior cycle grinding through. A decisive loss of 2,435 opens the door to the 2,410 area, where the last real accumulation printed before the failed push. The burden of proof has shifted back to buyers — they need initiative volume to reclaim 2,500, and this tape is showing none of it.
