Ether's second push to 2,738 fades on lighter volume

Ether probed 2,738 again in the last six hours, but the bid gave way and price slid to 2,666 before a small bounce to 2,685. The latest 12-hour candle closed up just 0.7% at 2,696 on roughly 4.2 million ETH, well below the 7.3 million that fueled the prior rejection. Seller delta has kept cumulative flow negative, so the tape still leans down even as the selling thins out.

ETHUSDT Desk Read — the second failed push, on a lighter tape

Angle this run: a quiet grind that keeps failing at the same shelf. The prior post read the market as a high-volume fade — heavy churn resolving lower. This window is the flip side of that coin: Ether tried the same 2,738 zone *again*, but this time the participation behind it was thin. A market that rejects a level once on heavy volume and then gets turned away again on light volume is not building energy for a breakout — it is drifting, with sellers still in control of the flow but in smaller size.

30 Sep 00:00 (latest)2,676.942,696.422,699.992,656.234.21M+0.73%

The headline number is the volume compression: 7.27M → 4.21M, a ~42% drop in participation. The latest candle only managed a +0.73% close and could not even reclaim 2,700 on the high (2,699.99). After a heavy rejection, a light-volume drift back toward the midpoint is consolidation, not recovery.

The 12:00–13:00 burst was the whole story: a two-hour spike to 2,738 on ~4M combined volume, immediately sold back to 2,666 by 14:00. Since then the tape has gone quiet — the 15:00 hour printed only ~700K ETH and a 2,685 close. The failed push came in a compressed window and left no follow-through.

15:00−7,911.68−46,745.93

CVD is still sliding lower (−42.4K → −46.7K), meaning cumulative aggressor flow remains net-seller across the session. The 14:00 hour showed a brief buyer flush (+6.6K delta) that was fully reversed by the −7.9K seller delta in the 15:00 hour. Buyers are showing up, but sellers keep absorbing them.

Session tone

The tape is a quiet grind with a down lean. Two attempts at the 2,738–2,749 shelf have now failed, the second on materially lighter volume. That is not the setup for a clean breakout — it reads as distribution into thin bids, with price pinned between the 2,656 low and the 2,700 shelf. A decisive push back above 2,700 on rising delta would be the first real sign the seller grip is loosening; until then the path of least resistance is a slow bleed toward the 2,656–2,666 lows.
